Marching Band Uniform Checkout Information

Printable Uniform Information
Uniform Contract
It’s almost time to check out Marching Band uniforms, and we need YOUR help to make it a successful and smooth process. Please contact Michelle or John Oszman at queeenoz@aol.com or at (913) 248-1267 to volunteer or to ask any questions about marching band uniforms or fitting dates.

We have four dates and can use your help on as many as you are available:
  1. **Tuesday, July 19th: Reassemble uniforms, 3:30 – 5:30 pm (this is a great opportunity for NHS/CCC students) We get uniforms back from the dry cleaners on individual hangers, and have to combine them onto a single hanger by uniform number. This work is very easy, but takes lots of hands.
  2. Tuesday, July 26th: Check out uniforms to Seniors/Juniors, 5:30 - 8:30 pm Seniors: 5:30 – 7:00 pm Juniors (Last Name A-K): 7:00 – 8:30 pm
  3. Wednesday, July 27th: Check out uniforms to Juniors/Sophomores, 5:30 - 8:30 pm Juniors (Last Name L-Z): 5:30 – 6:30pm Sophomores: 6:30 – 8:30pm
  4. Thursday, July 28th: Check out uniforms to Freshmen and other band members who do not yet have one. All grades: 5:30 - 8:30 pm We need lots of help this night, particularly seamstresses. If you can help, we need YOU! See specific jobs below.

Volunteers are needed from 5:00 – 8:30 each night during uniform check out (July 26 – July 28). Snacks are provided; you’re welcome to bring dinner if you’d like. Please note that parents who volunteer may bring their students in with them for fitting. However, they will not be fitted until the end of the evening you have volunteered for. **Please contact Michelle and John to let them know you plan to bring your student and to get more specific times on when younger students can be fitted.

Uniform fitting nights are a fantastic opportunity for juniors and seniors to earn service hours (National Honor Society, etc.)

Specific Jobs Each Night
  • Greeters: brief parents/students as they arrive. We need two each night.
  • Measure students: Students are measured to determine their size.
  • Hand out uniforms: If you have a head for numbers, this job is for you. Students are given a uniform to try; if it doesn’t fit, you help us determine other possible uniform choices/sizes. We need two each night. Fit hats: Need two people to fit hats and hand out plumes.
  • Seamstresses: Check uniforms for length, mark them, and hem them. Pants are only adjusted for length, so we only do straight hems. This is a great group to hang out with! We need several each night, with machines if possible.
  • Ironing hems: Hems are pressed before uniforms are returned to students. All materials provided!
  • Check out uniforms: Before students leave, uniform/hat numbers are verified, uniforms are put in a garment bag, and students sign a contract. We need two – three each night.

Even if you’ve never done this before, you’ll learn on the job and get to know other Marching Band parents. New to band? This is a great way to meet other parents, get to know the students, and gain helpful hints about band. This is a great group of kids, polite, and super easy to work with. Please – more hands make the work so much more fun!
