Band Letters

School letters, which are worn on letter jackets, may be earned in Band.  Requirements for letters are as follows:

1. You must participate in Marching Band.
2. You must attend band camp.
3. You must participate in Concert Band, Symphonic Band, or Percussion class second semester.
4. You must attend ALL required performances.  There are few exceptions to this rule.  A family ski trip planned in August for the December concert is NOT a permissible absence for lettering.  Playing in the pep band for the away football games (against other SM schools) is a requirement or an appropriate substitution.
5. You must display appropriate behavior in rehearsal at all times.
6. You must be on time to rehearsals, class, and performances.
7. The band is responsible for mall clean up four times during the year.  You must sign up  in advance and help with clean up once each week we are assigned.
8. You must choose one of the following options:
   1. Audition for KMEA District I Honor Band
   2. Participate in solo and ensemble festival in April
   3. Participate in Jazz Ensemble (either group will suffice)
   4. Audition for, make, and participate in Basketball Pep Band.  (Usually this is around 10 games.)

   According to State Activity Association guidelines, freshmen are not eligible to audition for KMEA Honor Band.  therefore, freshmen must choose one of the other three options to letter.
